Blended families are seen more and more, and nothing says love and commitment to the children than with a set of Family Vows. The vows are written to include the “new” parent, and depending on the age of the children, a short and sweet vow is presented to them as well. Family vows are a lovely way to assure the children that they are not losing a parent, but instead gaining another person who will love them forever.

To live as anything less than our authentic self short-changes our existence and it also short-changes the level of experience that we have with others. This even applies to something as simple as being honest with a friend when you’re having a rough day. When you take the step to share your authentic self, it allows for a connection to take place with others on a more meaningful level. Otherwise, our relationships and interactions are superficial.

Yes, we can put on a smile and say we’re having a great day even when we’re really hurting inside. But by not telling the truth and sharing what is going on, doors remain closed. Those same doors, when left open, can lead to healing or a deeper understanding of life.

We are here to help each other. Reach out and be that comforting presence to someone who needs you, and return, know that there are others who will do the same for you.

Just as in marriage, the designing of your wedding ceremony may take some compromise. Bringing together two people from different backgrounds, and sometimes different spiritual paths, may seem like a difficult challenge. Communicating with each other about what is most important for you to include in the ceremony, and listening to each other with open hearts, will lead to a peaceful compromise and a wedding ceremony that is reflective of your individual selves and your love for each other.
